The College maintains 3 Halls of residence for students, 2 for men and 1 for women These Halls are an integral parti of the College and are subject to the general supervision and control of the Administratative Officers and Wardens of the College under such rules and as may be approved from time to time. In addition, the Baptist mission maintains a student centre, the Carey Hall.
Each Hall is in the charge of a Warden appointed by the management from among the teaching staff who is responsible, for the proper management of the Hall including the control of the staff of the Hall and the discipline of the inmates of the Hall. The Halls are conducted on a cosmopolitan basis.
1. Heyer Hall
Heyer Hall, named in honour of the founder of the Mission consists of two buildings. The old Heyer Memorial Hall was built in 1892. It contains 16 rooms and provides accommodation for 40 students.
The new Heyer Hall completed in 1940 is a two storey stone structure with single room accommodation for 150 students. The building is equipped with modern sanitary and electrical fixtures a Kitchen, a Dining Hall, Prayer Hall Hall and Warden’s Quarters.
2.Wolf Hall
Wolf Hall erected in 1938-39 is located in a compound of more than six acres and provides accommodation for about 125 students. A Kitchen, a Dining Hall, an Assembly Hall, and Warden’s Quarters are also provided.Rev. Dr. L.B. Wolf was the first Principal of the Andhra Christian College and to perpetuate his much cherished memory the College authorities have decided to name the Hall as Wolf Hall.
3.Strock Hall for Women
Strock Hall is the name of the hostel for women students. This building is named after Rev. J.Roy Strock, M.A., D.D. eminent Principal of the College for many years in the past. First class accommodation with modern facilities is available for 150 women students.
STANDARDS, POLICIES & REGULATIONS
Under the authority of the Acharya Nagarjuna University the following rules of conduct and discipline shall be in force.
The Principal of a College shall have complete power for the maintenance of discipline of the students of the college.
The principal may frame and issue from time to time disciplinary rules of a permanent to temporary character regulating the conduct within and without the College or Hostel premises of graduate and under – graduate students in the rooms.
The Principal shall have power to inflict the following punishments in the interests of the students or the institutions concerned Fine, withholding attendance, withholding term certificates, suspension, expulsion.
It shall be one of the conditions of admission to colleges in the University area that students shall submit themselves for Medical examination as organized by the College and pay the fee that may be levied which shall not exceed Rs. 1-00 per student per year.
(a) Students of the college going on strike or in any way guilty of serious indiscipline shall ipso facto immediately forfeit their scholarship, fee concessions, etc.
(b) Scholarships fee concession etc., thus forfeited shall not normally be restored and in no case, restored with retrospective effect.
Students of the college going on strike or in any way guilty of serious breach of discipline shall be required, if they are residents of the attached Hostels, to quit the Hostels at 12 hours notice and they shall not normally be re-admitted to the privileges of residence in Hostels /in case they are readmitted they shall pay admission fees.
Every student shall wear a clean and decent dress and observe good manners.
(Lady students, especially the grown up girls, should wear modest and respectable dress including the hair plait and observe good manners. Any willful violation of this rule leads to removal from the rolls).
On the teacher entering his class-room the students shall rise and remain standing till they are desired to sit or till the teacher takes his seat.
No student shall be allowed to leave the class-room without the permission of his teacher or until the class is dismissed.
Students are required to observe order and be quiet at all times in the college and make as little noise as possible in moving from one room to another.
A student who disturbs a lesson or makes mischief in a class may be expelled from the class by the Lecturer. A pupil so expelled shall be deemed to be absent for that half day without leave.
Students are expected to assemble in the Class room punctually at the appointed time, when the roll shall be called and the absence of any student will be noted. A student coming into classroom after roll-call may be refused admission or recommended to the Principal for punishment.
Students who have no class to attend in a particular period of the day may remain in the waiting room or go to Library. Loitering in the campus or along the class rooms or verandahs is forbidden.
The case of recalcitrant students shall be submitted to the Principal for his/her orders.
The principal and College or Hostel Authorities shall have authority to inflict suitable punishments in case of misconduct of students in Hostels including fine, suspension and expulsion with the Principals approval.
Students are required to help in keeping the classrooms and College premises tidy.
Smoking within the college premises is strictly prohibited.
Students are prohibited from organizing and meeting of entertainment in the College or collecting money for any purpose within the College, without the permission of the Principal.
Students guilty of going over to other Colleges to take part in acts of indiscipline, such as organising demonstrations and strikes would be deemed especially culpable and would be punished accordingly.
Students shall not hold meetings for criticizing the conduct of the University or the Authorities of the College. Such meetings shall be deemed to be unlawful and the Principal might take such action as may be deemed necessary.
The Principal’s orders regarding discipline or expulsion of students for lack of progress or due to misconduct shall be final.
Regarding all matters not specified in the foregoing rules, students shall aim at conducting themselves according to the highest standards of manners with which they are acquainted with due regard to the rights of others.
Disciplinary regulations of the Andhra Education Rules.
i) “Students on the rolls of any College under public management are forbidden to take an active part in political agitation directed against the authority of the Government”.
ii) “If students of such College attend political meetings and conduct themselves in any manner which is forbidden or unbecoming or engage in political agitation in such a way as to interfere with corporate life and educational work of the College, the principal of the College may suspend or expel them or refuse the grant of Certificates for a specified period and may also send his case to the university with a view to their being dealt with under the University Regulations.”
Worship and religious Programmes of all kinds in the College and Hostels shall be in accordance with Christian principles.
Strict rules of discipline will be observed in all respects
Suspensions and Dismissal
The College reserves to itself the right to suspend, to drop from the rolls or dismiss any student when, in the judgement of the College Authorities, such action is advisable. It is understood that attendance at the College is a privilege and not a right and that this privelege may be withdrawn in the case of any student who doesn’t conform to the regulations and traditions of the institution or who is unable or unwilling to adjust himself to the College environment. A student dismissed or dropped from the institution will in no case be given a progress or conduct certificate for the year in which the action is taken.
Admission to and attendance at the College is a privilege and not a right. This privilege will be withdrawn in the case of any student who fails to conform to rules, regulations and traditions of this institution and who is unable or unwilling to adjust himself to the environment, requirements and ideals of College.
Regular daily attendance is required of every student, at each lecture, practical or writing class or other engagement.
Attendance at Literary Society meetings and Physical Education classes is also compulsory for every student. Any student who is unable or unwilling to conform to those requirements well be dropped from the College rolls.
No student is allowed to absent himself without applying for leave. A student who absents himself without leave will be fined one rupee for each day or part of a day of absence. Any student absent without leave for one week may be dropped from the College rolls. No fine is imposed in case of absence for which leave is granted on application by the absentee.
When a student is unable to attend the College on account of illness or other reason, the cause of his absence should be intimated to the Principal at once. In case of prolonged absence on account of prolonged ill-health, a medical certificate may be required. In case of sudden illness during College hours the student shall, if possible apply personally to the Principal for such leave as maybe necessary but if this is impossible the Lecturer who is in charge of the class at the time may permit him to leave the class or to go home. Such permission should be given in writing.
Permission to leave the class may not be granted by any Lecturer except in case of sudden illness or other special circumstances Leave granted by any Lecturer will extend only to the end of the period in which it is granted. Leave cannot be granted by the Lecturer for successive periods in advance.
Attendance will be marked for each period and absence from any period for any cause will entail absence for the half-day.
Absence on the first two days of any term and absence under special circumstances will be counted twice in levying fine. Students who absent themselves from Term Examinations are liable to detention.
Except in special circumstances applications for leave shall be made before 10 O’ clock each day.
