The Department of Botany was a part of Natural Science department since1938.  In 1961 the Department of Natural Science was bifurcated in to Department of Botany and Department of Zoology.

The founder Head of the department was Late Dr. N. Channa Reddy. It was the first Botany department to be established in Guntur. The built-up area of the department is 6596 Sq. Ft. It has three laboratories, one library, one\ herbarium and one museum.
